The Best Yakutians of 2006 is the republic contest launched in order to award and support Yakutians who gained outstanding achievements in fields:
- Business,
- Public Administration,
- Healthcare,
- Art,
- Literature,
- Municipality,
- Science,
- Education,
- Agriculture.
Contest participants are residents of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) proposed and nominated by any organization, group or themselves. However, the final list of nominee was approved by the jury.
On February 1, 2007, winners were announced. Best Yakutians of 2006 had been defined by Internet users (through online vote) and experts.

PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
Vyacheslav A. Shtyrov
President of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)
Awarded with the Order of Honor and Valor for achievements in the name of the Russian peoples as well as the prize “The Statesman of the Russian Federation-2005” for an important contribution to the socio-economic development of Russia. Deserved the Order of Peter the Great. Under his leadership Yakutia managed to improve life dramatically.
BUSINESS
Matthew N. Evseev
Director of Almazy Anabara OJSC
Deputy of republic parliament (IL Tumen). Honoured worker of Yakutia's national economy. Leader of the Russian Economy' 2003 prize-winner. Deserved The Man of 2005 Russian Award .
Has high education with major in mining engineer and business administration. Renowned as highly experienced economic manager who has capacity to set right priorities and make bold decisions.
Today Almazy Anabara OJSC (“Diamonds of Anabar” in translation from Russian) holds a leading position in the economy of the republic. The company increases production volume from year to year. Three years ago, the company started diversifying its production. AA deals with diamond mining, geological survey, timber cutting, timber processing, agriculture, and trade. Last year it contributed 3 billion rubles to the republic budged.
In 2006 Almazy Anabara was recognized as the best company of the republic.
HEALTHCARE
Marianna M. Ivanova
Surgeon, endocrinology expert of National Medicine Centre
The only endocrinology expert who practices surgery in National Medicine Centre. The doctor has no fabulous titles and awards, but posses the reputation of an outstanding surgeon and understanding person. With her help, many patients recovered, even from serious illness.
ART
Stanislav M. Afanasenko
Art Director of State Violinists Choir “Virtuosos of Yakutia”
An outstanding manager. The initiator of the International Contest “Violin of North”. The founder of “Virtuosos of Yakutia”. One of his musical projects deserved the Russian President V.Putin Grant. In July of 2006 Virtuosos of Yakutia won Grand Prix of International Violinists Festival in France. Last year the choir participated in the Days of the Republic of Yakutia in Mongolia and China.
LITERATURE
Nikolay A. Louginov
Writer
Mr. Louginov has most titled writer in the republic. He is Vice-President of the Republic's Academy of Spirituality, Director of Oyjunsky Museum of Literature, co-chairman of the Russian Union of writers, winner of Russian Literature Prize.
He wrote more than 20 books, including acclaimed tales “Kustuk” and “Sky paths, earth ways”, novels “The life” and “By the Will of Genghis Khan”. Some of his literary works were translated into English, French, and Spanish languages.
The trilogy “By the Will of Genghis Khan” is used as the basis of Andrey Brorisov's movie of the same name, that is in production since 2006.
MUNICIPAL MANAGEMENT Anatoly T. Popov
Head of Mirninsky region (ulus)
An acknowledged economic manager who paved his path from blue-collar job to a top management. He is aware of all problems and potentials existing in the region, and able to find an appropriate way out of non-standard situations.
Mr. Popov pays much attention to the development of local governments. In 2006 he coordinated successfully the process of small settlements's introducing municipal management. Besides, many new social-oriented buildings put into operation in Mirninsky region.
SCIENCE
Michael D. Novopashin
Director of Chersky North Mining Institute affiliated with Siberian Dept. of Russian Academy of Science.
Honoured worker of science of the Russian Federation. Awarded with the order “Services to the Fatherland” of the 2 nd Degree. A member of Science and Technological Policy Counsel of President of the Sakha Republic. A member of Economic Counsel of the Government of the Sakha Republic. In 2006 he was elected Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Science. Have more than 150 scientific works, including 4 monographs, and 16 Russian patents.
EDUCATION
Vera Y. Zhergotova
Russian language and literature teacher
The Sakha gymnasium
Candidate of pedagogic science. A representative of a well-known dynasty of teachers – the Zhergotovs of Tattinsky ulus. The winner of the republic contest “The Teacher of 2006”. Participated in the national competition “The Russian Teacher of 2006”. Coordinator of school students, who won awards of The Step to the Future Youth Scientific Conference and International Young Researchers Congress.
She is the author of the textbook “Literature” for republic teachers. Owns the medal “The Teacher of XXI Century” established by the Republic's Ministry of Education.
AGRICULTURE
Andrey T. Nogovizyn
Chairman of Churapcha Agroindustrial Consumers' Co-operative
Honoured worker of Russian agriculture. Awarded with the title “The Manager of 2001”. Included in the book “The Best People of Russia-2003”.
Under his leadership, the co-operative acquired cooked meats shop, underground ice-tunnel with 250 tons capacity, a milk plant with nonwaste meat and milk processing technology. Applied new technologies afforded the co-operative to make more than sixty products.
