The Pole of Cold Tourist Festival

Within the territory of the republic there is the official Pole of Cold in the northern hemisphere, which is in Oimyakon with a temperature recorded at the lowest level of -71.2C. The place is worth visiting. It is something to do at least once in a life-time. Those people who have been to the place can be called "True subjugators of Earth".

Every year in March a traditional tourism festival is held in the Pole of Cold. It unites experienced travelers who can be regarded as true explorers of the World. Even Santa Claus, of Lapland, and Russian Ded Moroz , of Veliky Ustug, have visited and founded their residences here. By the way, these fabulous heroes meet thear colleague Chyskhaan (the Lord of Frost) who is actually consided as the Pole of Cold Host.

The Pole of Cold festival consists of the following activities: different contests among participants, concerts, bazaars, fishing contests and fireworks.

Also, a motor rally from Yakutsk to Oimyakon (1270 km) is held during the Pole of Cold festival. The rally is carried out as an excursion and contains visits to museums, historical places, cultural and ethnographic complexes and museums. This is a truly extreme activity because participants will have to pass steep ascents and slopes, through dangerous mountain passes.
